What is Wool4?
Wool4 is a customer focussed wool marketing program that is enabling Landmark to promote Australian wool which encompasses changing customer values. The Wool4 program strives to create commercial value chain pipelines, and provide recognition for your wool quality and best practice farm management. The Wool4 program is divided into four categories, Wool4 the Animals, Wool4 the Planet, Wool4 the People, and Wool4 the Future. This structure allows for different levels of participation. Wool growers are able to begin by fulfilling requirements of one or more Pillars, and progressively work towards full participation.
Why has Landmark developed Wool4?
Australian wool growers have been modifying production practices, while at the same time end users have been requesting more information about the whole production system. Landmark has recognised this and the need to develop relationships throughout the supply chain to pull-through our clients wool along the supply pipeline to create value, supply feedback, and develop relationships with end users. Landmark is determined to be at the forefront of ensuring Australian wool continues to enjoy market access both now and well into the future.
What’s in it for wool producers?
This is a pull-through model linking wool growers with each segment of the supply chain and end users. This allows wool producers who have changed production practices to be recognised, as well as receive important feedback, and promote the development of information sharing both ways between the end user and wool producer. Wool4 links participating growers right through to end users, by promoting the highest standards of on farm production, and passing that information along through each step of the supply chain. Linking the wool growers who have made progressive changes to end users who are requesting this wool will assist with the certainty of future market access.
What is required of producers?
Little change may be required for wool producers to supply to the wool4 program. This will be different for individual producers. Wool4 is tiered to allow different levels of participation under the 4 pillars of the program.
Pillar 1, Wool4 the Animals requires Merino wool from flocks in which mulesing is not used, flocks where mulesing has ceased, or flocks where mulesing is used in conjunction with a pain relief agent. Wool producers must also comply with Animal Welfare Codes of Practice.
Pillar 2, Wool4 the Planet requires the producer to have an environmental plan in place, dispose of waste chemical according to product labels, and recycle used chemical drums through the drum muster program or equivalent. Wool must also meet the chemical residue standards of the EU eco label. A chemical use log must be kept.
Pillar 3, Wool4 the People requires adherence to relevant Occupational Health and Safety regulations, safe storage and use of chemicals in accordance with product labels. Completion of chemical handling course and completion of at least two days of training or skills development during the previous12 months.
Pillar 4, Wool4 the Future combines all pillars, and comprises the full wool4 program.
How are Wool4 Orders filled?
Customer orders will be ongoing continually throughout the season, and will vary in size and specifications. Orders will be filled by sourcing wool that has been delivered to Landmark wool stores accompanied by a producer declaration, a national wool declaration, and any other supporting documentation that is required. If your wool is considered for an order parcel, you will be notified, and presented with a price offer. The decision ultimately lies with the producer to accept or decline the offer. Participating wool producers are not obliged to only sell wool exclusively through the Wool4 system. Wool may be sold through the auction system, or by any other method. Wool4 does give you another marketing option, and places you in the forefront of the growing consumer trend towards environmentally responsible products. Meeting these consumer demands now assures market access for your wool into the future.
